Lajji: The World Cup final will be held in Benslimane.

Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Moroccan Football Federation, announced on Thursday that the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane, near Casablanca, will host the final of the 2030 World Cup.

The president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation clarified that the decision to build the Hassan II Stadium in Benslimane was not an individual decision, but came under the guidance of King Mohammed VI.

FIFA has not yet decided on the final's location

Lekjaa's statements come at a time when FIFA has not officially announced the stadium that will host the final of the 2030 World Cup, amid competition between Morocco and Spain to host this major event.

Benslimane is located about 60 kilometers from Casablanca, where the Hassan II Stadium project is being constructed, with an estimated cost of around $12 billion and a projected capacity of 115,000 spectators, making it the largest football stadium in the world upon completion.

Moroccan-Spanish competition for the most important match

The 2030 World Cup will be exceptional, as the tournament matches will be held for the first time in six countries across three continents.

Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay will host the three opening matches, while Morocco, Portugal, and Spain will host most of the tournament matches.

FIFA has not yet specified all the cities and stadiums where the matches will take place, as both Morocco and Spain are vying to host the final match.

Earlier this month, Rafael Lozan, the president of the Spanish Football Federation, told local media: "Spain should host the final match".

On the other hand, FIFA confirmed in August that media reports suggesting a promise from FIFA President Gianni Infantino to Morocco to host the final were "incorrect and misleading".

Lekjaa added  during a political event: "Benslimane Stadium will host the World Cup final whether people like it or not".

He also expressed his hope that the Moroccan national team would be part of the final match, repeating the historic achievement of the "Atlas Lions" during the Qatar 2022 World Cup, when they reached the semifinals.
