The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has terminated head coach Pape Thiaw along with his entire coaching staff following the nation’s disappointing run in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking an unexpected conclusion to his leadership of the Lions of Teranga, as reported by Africa Soccer.
This decision comes amid escalating demands from fans and football stakeholders after Senegal’s dramatic exit in the Round of 32.
The West African powerhouse relinquished a two-goal lead before enduring a painful 3-2 defeat in extra time against Belgium, a result that incited widespread disapproval towards the coaching crew.
Thiaw, who took over from Aliou Cissé in late 2024, initially experienced a successful period, leading Senegal to World Cup qualification and managing their journey in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
However, his tenure became marred by controversy following the AFCON final, where disciplinary issues and a subsequent CAF suspension attracted considerable scrutiny.
