American-Ghanaian defender Nicholas Akoto has signed with Eastleigh FC.
Nicholas Akoto has officially signed with Eastleigh FC on a permanent basis, infusing the Spitfires' right flank with speed, vigor, and an offensive mindset. The American-Ghanaian defender joins the squad following his departure from Burton Albion and is eager to embark on a new journey in Hampshire. The 27-year-old has spent the past two seasons at Burton, where he made 33 appearances, and previously honed his skills in the United States. At Tennessee Wesleyan University, he recorded five goals and eight assists over 30 matches, before transferring to Keiser University in 2021, where he added seven assists in 34 games. Akoto then moved to South Georgia Tormenta in USL League One, where his impressive debut earned him a spot on the Team of the Week. He also developed through AFC Wimbledon's under-18 program, departing the London club in 2017. After being released from Wimbledon, Akoto played the 2016-17 season with Isthmian League team Maldon & Tiptree, where he made 20 league appearances and netted one goal. He kicked off 2018 with non-league club Whyteleafe. “It feels fantastic! I am thrilled to be here, and I hope we can start strong and build momentum!” Akoto expressed following the signing of his contract.
