Amrabat Refuses to Play Under Wahbi
Moroccan international player Sofyan Amrabat announced on Tuesday that he is not willing to represent the national team under coach Mohamed Wahbi. He added that he does not intend to retire from international football or close the door on a future return to the "Atlas Lions."
Amrabat explained in a message posted on his Instagram story that making this decision was "extremely difficult" for him, noting that he no longer feels capable of continuing to represent the team under the current coach. Therefore, he decided to make himself unavailable for selection as long as Wahbi remains in charge.
The Moroccan midfielder stated that representing his country has been the "greatest honor" of his sports career, emphasizing that he has given his all since his first call-up 12 years ago, and expressing that his love for Morocco and the national team will remain steadfast.
Amrabat mentioned that out of respect for the national team and all involved, he prefers to keep the reasons for his decision to himself and not disclose them, while clearly confirming that his current step does not mean he is retiring from international football.
The Moroccan international said he "does not close the door" on the possibility of representing Morocco again, sending a message to his teammates and coaching staff, wishing them success, and announcing that he will remain the team's biggest supporter and will support them with the same enthusiasm he showed on the pitch.
It is worth noting that Amrabat has not had enough playing opportunities during his recent appearances with the "Atlas Lions," especially with the impressive performances of the trio Nayef Aguerd, Ayyoub Bouaddi, and Azzedine Ounahi.
