Djamel Sedjati made a strong impression in Budapest. The Algerian middle-distance specialist won the gold medal on Sunday, September 13, in the 800m at the Ultimate Championship, a new event that brings together the elite of global athletics.
The Algerian athlete avenged his earlier defeat by Kenyan Emmanuel Wanyonyi, who had prevented him from winning gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

In Budapest, Djamel Sedjati crossed the finish line first with a time of 1:41.91, ahead of Canadian Marco Arop (2nd) who clocked 1:42.28, and his Kenyan competitor (3rd) with a time of 1:42.44.

The Algerian middle-distance runner managed the race brilliantly, before delivering a remarkable acceleration in the final meters, catching up with the Canadian who seemed to be heading for victory, overtaking him to secure another gold medal for Algeria.

Djamel Sedjati thus adds to his impressive record with this new medal, just days after his gold victory in the 800m at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, on August 31.
