The curtain fell on the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, on Thursday, September 3. Algeria finished in 9th place with a total of 40 medals, including 13 golds.
Italy (66 gold medals, 1st), Turkey (41 gold medals, 2nd), and Greece (26 gold medals, 3rd) stood out by occupying the top three spots. France, which chose not to field its top athletes, along with many European countries that took the opportunity to give younger athletes playing time, finished in 4th place, ahead of Egypt, Spain, Morocco, and Portugal.

Kaylia Nemour wins 3 gold medals
For Algeria, this edition marked the "best performance" in the history of the Mediterranean Games held outside its borders, and the second-best participation ever recorded, just after Oran 2022, the Algerian Olympic and Sports Committee celebrated, praising the athletes who raised the national flag in Taranto.

Algeria's success in winning 13 gold medals was largely thanks to gymnast Kaylia Nemour, who triumphed three times. The Algerian Olympic champion also added a bronze medal to her collection in the team competition. It was her achievements that allowed Algeria to climb in the rankings and secure a spot in the Top 10 after a difficult start.
