The Algerian channel SPORT PLUS HD is set to broadcast the German handball league, marking a first for a television channel in Algeria. The sports media announced on Friday that it has established a “multi-year agreement with the Handball-Bundesliga, the most prestigious handball league in the world.”
Sport Plus HD clarified in a statement that it is now the “exclusive broadcaster of the Opel Handball Bundesliga in Algeria and North Africa, and will offer the competition throughout the Middle East.”

It also announced that coverage will begin on Sunday, September 13 at 17:00 (Algerian time) with the match between Füchse Berlin and VfL Gummersbach. Furthermore, the channel plans to broadcast “three matches per day, live and in full,” with commentary in “Arabic and Tamazight,” as well as the “Supercup and the Final4 of the German Cup.”

Sport Plus HD aims to contribute to the development of handball in Algeria
SPORT PLUS HD states that its agreement with the German handball federation is part of a “development initiative for handball in Algeria.”
“Handball is the most decorated team sport in our country, with seven African championship titles and a continental record of five consecutive victories between 1981 and 1989,” it reminds, adding that providing young players, coaches, and Algerian clubs with regular access to the best handball in the world, “is helping to advance this discipline here.”

“Handball has deep roots in Algeria,” emphasized Bouzid Ichalalene, the channel's director, noting that German handball is the “global reference for this discipline.”
“Bringing it to our viewers, in their languages, is precisely why we launched this channel,” said Bouzid Ichalalene, whose channel is accessible on Nilesat 7° West, online, and on mobile.
