Cadillac faces two penalties following Sergio Perez's violations during FP1 in Madrid.

The Cadillac Formula 1 team has received two penalties following Sergio Perez being caught speeding in the pit lane during the initial free practice session at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid.

The Mexican racer was recorded surpassing the required 80km/h speed limit in the pit lane on two occasions throughout the first session of the weekend.

The FIA stewards imposed the following fines on the American team for violating Article B1.6.3a.i of the FIA F1 regulations. The first infraction resulted in a €700 fine when Perez was clocked at 86.7km/h, exceeding the limit by 6.7km/h. The second infraction led to a more severe penalty of €1000 after Perez was documented traveling at 96.7km/h, surpassing the limit by 16.7km/h.

This incident comes during a challenging inaugural season for Cadillac. As the team strives to adapt to the championship, it has encountered considerable reliability challenges. Currently, Perez is in 23rd place in the drivers' standings, while his teammate Valtteri Bottas is in 22nd, both without any points.

The first practice session in Madrid also marked the drivers' first experience on the Madring circuit. Designed around the IFEMA Madrid exhibition center and the adjacent Valdebebas district, the venue features a semi-street circuit layout.

The track comprises a blend of tight sections and high-speed straights, along with the banked, sweeping turn referred to as "La Monumental".

"The track itself is a legitimate racing circuit, from what I've observed," Perez commented to the media prior to the race weekend. "I haven't yet been on the circuit, but based on what I've seen in the simulator, it’s a genuine track."

"It’s a bit intimidating, I must say. It slightly reminds me of Jeddah. A good, authentic track; I’m really pleased to be here, and I believe the atmosphere will be among the best."

The 36-year-old recorded the 21st fastest time during FP1, finishing just ahead of Bottas.
