Ferrari gained “barely any” benefit from its Madring F1 trial.

Lewis Hamilton claims that Ferrari gained “barely any” edge from their experience at Formula 1’s new Madring circuit prior to this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix.

The Scuderia conducted a filming day at Madrid’s street track in July, utilizing their SF-26, with regulations permitting up to 200km of running on demonstration tyres supplied by Pirelli.

However, the circuit and its facilities required significant adjustments at that time.

When asked about the extent of the advantage that test offered Ferrari, a doubtful Hamilton responded: “I think it's hardly any. It was dusty, extremely dusty, there was no grip whatsoever.

“We can't modify the car since it wasn't a test, it was filming. We weren't even at full throttle in many corners, just low power, low grip. The only thing I gained was knowing the track layout. So, honestly, I don’t think it provided any real benefit, to be frank.”

Like many of his colleagues, and as evidenced by the Formula 3 event that took place two weeks ago, Leclerc anticipates that the new circuit will pose a significant challenge.

“Of course, I completed a few laps, some behind a road car and two laps in a Formula 1 car, but with cameras everywhere and a lot of dust on the track,” the Monegasque remarked. “However, it appeared to be a quite demanding circuit, and I believe it's precisely the type of track I relish as a driver.

“It's also fair to note that I think [by] Sunday there will be very few chances for overtaking. But I believe qualifying will be a very exciting and challenging experience for all drivers, and for that, I’m looking forward to it.”

The July test was characterized by race organizers as “an opportunity to assess the logistics and coordination necessary for a Formula 1 event, with Ferrari functioning under conditions closely mirroring those of a grand prix weekend,” according to their press release.

“The Scuderia deployed personnel and equipment typical of a race weekend operation, allowing organizers to confirm essential operational procedures throughout the circuit.”
