Why Charles Leclerc is not utilizing the newest ADUO2 engine at the Spanish Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc continues to grapple with the repercussions of his collision with the wall at the Parabolica during last weekend's Italian Grand Prix, resulting in his inability to utilize Ferrari's latest Formula 1 engine specification at the upcoming Spanish GP.
Ferrari's engineers have reportedly assessed the 067/6 unit, equipped with the second set of modifications allowed by the FIA, as viable, but opted against the risk of deploying it at the Madring.
The rationale is straightforward: F1 regulations forbid the use of an engine that cannot be serviced in all its homologated components. No fractures or damages were discovered during the initial external structural inspections, yet the plan is to perform more comprehensive X-ray evaluations to identify any minor damage that might have been overlooked.
The choice to avoid risking the ADUO2 engine in Madrid is thus a prudent one: the Madring circuit is new, and drivers will need to accumulate as much track time as possible, while engineers aim to collect data to finalize a setup that must effectively balance the demands of both slow and fast sections.
Interestingly, the Iberian capital sits at an elevation of 667 meters above sea level, comparable to the altitude of the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Therefore, the enhanced turbo compressor included in the ADUO2 package could have offered a performance advantage in the slightly thinner atmosphere.

Any minor problems with the power unit during Friday practice could jeopardize the preparations for the GP, leading to the decision to delay the return of the engine under scrutiny until FP1 in Baku.
Consequently, Leclerc will rely on an ADUO1 engine, while the trackside team can evaluate the actual performance disparity between this unit and the ADUO2, which Lewis Hamilton will be able to utilize as usual.
No one is openly discussing it, particularly after the setback at Monza, but there exists within the Scuderia a determination to excel in Madrid, leaving several strategies still on the table.
The circuit may align well with the traits of the SF-26: a medium-to-high aerodynamic downforce is necessary, and the track surface is not anticipated to offer substantial grip, potentially benefiting those with superior traction on corner exits.
Downforce is likely to be more critical than efficiency (we might see the additional flaps on the movable wings make a comeback), and the Ferrari should be less impacted by the power shortfall compared to the Mercedes V6 due to the presence of 22 corners and a significantly greater number of opportunities to recharge the battery than at Monza.
Hamilton and Leclerc will need to emphasize single-lap speed, as a strong qualifying effort on a circuit where overtaking will be nearly impossible could be vital. However, if circumstances don't unfold favorably, it wouldn't be surprising for the Monegasque to activate a second engine with ADUO2 (available in the pool), incurring his first penalty for deploying a fifth power unit of the season, but ensuring he has enough backup to complete the championship without further complications.
