Kofi Adams asserts that Carlos Queiroz should be granted the chance to remain as the coach of the Black Stars.

Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, has expressed his backing for Carlos Queiroz, asserting that the seasoned Portuguese coach deserves the chance to remain as the head of the Black Stars.

Queiroz took over with a short-term contract in April after Otto Addo was let go, with the main objective of steering Ghana through the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Even with a brief preparation period, the 73-year-old successfully led the Black Stars to the knockout phase of the tournament for the first time since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

However, his future is in question following Ghana's exit in the Round of 32.

In a conversation with TV3, Adams commended Queiroz's influence on the national squad and urged the Ghana Football Association to extend his contract beyond the original terms.

"We ought to allow Carlos Queiroz the chance to stay a bit longer. He has demonstrated that a coach makes a difference," the Sports Minister remarked.

Ghana began their World Cup journey with a 1-0 victory over Panama, followed by a scoreless draw with England. The Black Stars then faced a 2-1 loss to Croatia in their final Group C match but advanced to the Round of 32 by finishing among the best third-placed teams.

Their campaign concluded in the knockout stage, where they were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Colombia.

Attention will now shift to the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with Ghana placed in Group C alongside Côte d'Ivoire, Somalia, and The Gambia. The Black Stars are anticipated to kick off their qualification process in September.
