Moroccan international Abde Ezzalzouli spoke about wearing a shirt that reads “TODOS SOMOS CABALLAS,” which refers to the residents of the occupied city of Ceuta, during his team's match against Villarreal on Monday. He clarified that his action had no political significance or disrespect towards the Moroccan people.
Ezzalzouli, in a story posted on his Instagram account, stated that he decided to clarify the matter after the league match against Villarreal, emphasizing that the shirt was never used "for political purposes or to insult the Moroccan people."
The Moroccan player mentioned that the shirt had a social message, explaining that he wore it to support the local residents, regardless of their nationalities, due to the difficult circumstances they face.
On the other hand, Ezzalzouli confirmed that his clarification should not be seen as an apology to anyone, saying: “Anyone who wants to exploit the situation to question my love for my country is free to do so.”
The Moroccan national team player concluded his message by reaffirming his connection to his roots, stating that he will continue his life "with his head held high," and will keep representing his roots "with pride and sacrifice."
The phrase “TODOS SOMOS CABALLAS” literally translates to "We are all from Ceuta," while the term “Caballas” is used to refer to the residents of the occupied Ceuta, adding a meaning to the shirt that goes beyond the sporting aspect, especially since it involves a player representing the Moroccan national team.
