Algeria: Belloumi, innate elegance! (video)

Oct 7, 2026

Belloumi junior has finally made his debut with the Algeria national team, and what an impressive start!

He had to wait until he was 24 years old to follow in his father Lakhdar's footsteps among the internationals, while his father started at 19. Unlike him, who took three matches to score his first goal, Bachir has netted two goals in three appearances.

Called up for the first time in October 2023 by Djamel Belmadi, without having played, he was then playing for Farense in the Portuguese top division and had made a dazzling start in Europe, before suffering a serious knee ligament injury.

It took him three years to return to the spotlight and what a way to do it! Shining with Hull City in the Premier League, with a brace against Chelsea, he returned to a post-Mahrez selection as an outsider.

Eventually, Brahim Hemdani started him in the very first match and after a quiet start, he began to showcase his full range of talents. Benefiting from Hadj Moussa's injury, he was once again a starter against Burundi and he was the only player to shine in the difficult conditions of Bujumbura, equalizing the score.

Yesterday, he replaced Maza in the 40th minute and it was he who revitalized the Greens, not only with a magnificent free kick into the top corner, but also with his dribbles, both right and left. He also showed promise as a central playmaker with a pass for Bakrar that was missed.

very close to scoring an incredible goal. From a throw-in by Bensebaini, with his back to goal, he managed to find Chiakha with a backheel, before turning and racing towards the box. Superbly assisted by Amoura, who anticipated his movement, Belloumi feinted past an opponent on the left before attempting a shot with his weaker foot, but it went just wide!

He was the most consistent player of the camp with an average rating of 7.75. We observed his understanding with Maza, and yesterday he collaborated well with Bakrar, Chiakha, Amoura, and Kebbal. He seems well on his way to establishing himself permanently and why not reclaim his father's legendary number 10!
