To help Tottenham Hotspur escape their crisis after a series of winless matches, coach Roberto De Zerbi made an "unconventional" decision that he imposed on the players.

Tottenham is currently at the bottom of the Premier League table, having failed to secure a win in 6 matches, despite the club spending around £380 million ($505 million) to sign ten new players during the summer transfer window.

The coach hopes that encouraging direct communication among players away from the pitch will speed up the integration of new signings and enhance team spirit, potentially saving Tottenham's season domestically.

In explaining the reasons behind these new rules, De Zerbi emphasized the importance of direct human interaction among players, rather than being constantly distracted by their phones.

He told reporters: "We have trained together, spent time together, and we decided to put away mobile phones during breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so we can stay together and communicate, because everyone has become busy with their phones all the time."

The Italian coach confirmed that the training camp in Spain was not limited to physical and technical exercises, but also included serious meetings to discuss the team's poor performance and current crisis.

He added: "We held important meetings where we talked about football, our current situation, and the need for each individual to take responsibility."

He continued: "We organized special dinners for players only, and others for coaching staff only."

De Zerbi clarified his responsibilities as a coach, saying: "When you are a coach, you realize that you need to improve things and change the current situation, so you seek to find all possible solutions."

De Zerbi revealed that the idea of holding a training camp to enhance player cohesion is not new to him, as he used the same approach during his time at Olympique Marseille.

He noted that the numerous changes in Tottenham's lineup have made it difficult to build the necessary chemistry among players, especially with some returning late from international duties.

He concluded his remarks by saying: "Spending three or four days together, away from families, with the club as the top priority, is normal and beneficial."

Despite the strict measures imposed regarding mobile phone usage, De Zerbi confirmed that he did not aim to turn the training camp into a military environment based on excessive restrictions and discipline.

He clarified that players enjoyed the freedom to go out and explore the city of Marbella during their free time.
