Rangers International took a decisive advantage in the first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League on Sunday against MC Alger. The Nigerian club is in a favorable position ahead of the return match.
Enugu Rangers aspires to return to the CAF Champions League. Since their defeat in the final in 1975 against Hafia FC, the club has not stepped onto the field of the continent's most prestigious competition. Their last appearance in the group stage was during the 2019-2020 season in the CAF Confederation Cup. This year could be their year to return. The team is now one match away from making history.
In their encounter with MC Alger, the Rangers displayed clear dominance. After a goalless first half, the Nigerian club intensified their play in the second half, which paid off. The Rangers scored 2 goals in this second half. They will now need to defend this precious advantage during their trip to Algiers next Friday to hope for a place in the group stage.
