Former Formula 1 racer David Coulthard has cautioned that "heads will roll" if Williams's revamped FW48 does not show an immediate improvement in performance.
The Grove team has faced challenges all season with a car that is too heavy. After 14 races, it ranks ninth in the constructors' championship with 11 points: six points behind Carlos Sainz and five points trailing Alex Albon.
However, they have now launched a significant upgrade package, which team principal James Vowles described as nearly a B-spec car, at this weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix in an effort to climb the standings.
During an episode of the Up To Speed podcast, the former McLaren driver articulated his anticipation for a considerable leap from the Vowles-led squad.
"I believe, based on conversations with some team members, that it represents a meaningful advancement since the car will now be at the correct weight, which we know 10kg translates to three to four tenths of a second per lap," Coulthard stated.

"Therefore, carrying excess weight puts you at a disadvantage. Additionally, this will also serve as a step towards their plans for next year's car.
"There are several aerodynamic adjustments for the upcoming regulations, particularly around the front of the floor, which may benefit some teams more than others.
"But I am expecting something akin to what we witnessed with Aston [Martin]; they experienced a noticeable improvement in performance when they introduced their B-spec car. If that doesn't occur, undoubtedly, there will be consequences, won't there?"
Sainz and Albon wrapped up the first practice session in Baku in 12th and 13th places, and the second practice session in 17th and 16th positions, respectively.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is scheduled for Saturday at 3pm local time (noon UK time).
