Despite the "World Cup announcement," Ronaldo tops Portugal's list once again.
The new head coach of the Portugal national team, Jorge Jesus, has called up star player Cristiano Ronaldo for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.
This is the first squad announced by Jesus, who took over from Spaniard Roberto Martinez, who left the Portugal national team after a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16 at the World Cup.
The last club Jesus managed was Al Nassr, where Ronaldo plays, and together they won the league title last season.
Jesus (72 years old) has previously coached several Portuguese clubs, including Benfica and Sporting Lisbon.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d'Or winner, is the all-time top scorer for the Portugal national team with 146 goals, and one of his notable international achievements is helping the team win the UEFA Euro 2016.
The Portugal national team will begin its UEFA Nations League campaign with a home match against Wales on September 24, followed by an away game against Norway three days later, and a match against Denmark on October 1, before hosting Norway again on October 4.
Ronaldo (41 years old) indicated that the World Cup held last summer would be his last, but the global star has not yet specified when he will retire from international play.
Ronaldo will be 43 when the UEFA Euro 2028 takes place, which is the next major tournament on the horizon.
