Details of Amr Zahran's crisis from the beginning of the incident until the issuance of the suspension penalty
Recent hours have seen a crisis in the Basketball League, involving Amr Zahran, a player for Al Ahly's first basketball team, and a player from Al Qanah, due to an incident that occurred during the match between the two teams in the first round of the tournament.
The Start of the Crisis
The crisis began during the match when Amr Zahran displayed unsportsmanlike behavior towards one of the opposing players, which sparked significant controversy after the game. This prompted the Egyptian Basketball Federation to decide to refer the player for investigation to clarify the details of the incident and apply appropriate measures.
Interrogation of Amr Zahran
Zahran underwent interrogation on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Egyptian Basketball Federation, where his statements regarding the incident were heard before the matter was presented to the federation's board of directors for a final decision on the penalties.
Amr Zahran Suspended for 3 Months
After completing the investigation process, the board of directors of the Egyptian Basketball Federation approved several penalties for the player, including a suspension for 3 months from the 2026-2027 season, which will end with the conclusion of the Basketball League. The suspension period, according to the decision, includes matches in the Egypt Cup and the Egyptian Super Cup, in addition to any international friendly or official matches the player participates in during the penalty period.
A Fine of 200,000 EGP
The federation also decided to impose a financial fine of 200,000 EGP on the player, along with a final warning, emphasizing that if any violation occurs in the future, the penalty will be intensified according to the applicable regulations and rules. Thus, the Egyptian Basketball Federation concluded the Amr Zahran crisis after completing the investigation procedures and ratifying the penalties by the board of directors.
