Two-time Formula 1 title holder Fernando Alonso has disclosed that he took his son, Leonard, for a go-kart ride when he was merely two months old.

The Aston Martin driver discussed balancing fatherhood with his continuing F1 obligations during an interview with the Spanish radio sports show El Larguero.

Alonso mentioned that his son, who is currently six months old, has already experienced a racing circuit. "We already took a lap in a kart. At two months, I carried him for a lap in my arms. He could already feel the wind on his face," the 45-year-old shared.

After months of uncertainty regarding his future in the championship, Alonso secured a contract extension with Aston Martin that will keep him with the Silverstone team until at least the conclusion of 2027.

"Next year, I want to share the circuits, the global travels, and capture many photos with him," he continued. "When I step away from Formula 1, it’s clear I won’t be visiting 24 countries every year, right? So, I hope to spend a bit more time with him."

Although Alonso generally keeps details of his personal life private, he provided an update on his son, whom he welcomed with his partner Melissa Jimenez in March 2026.

"I believe he's thrilled with everything. Right now, he’s a very cheerful child, and it’s genuinely lovely," he stated. "When I’m at home, the brief moments I have compensate for all the challenges we’re facing professionally."

The year 2026 has proven to be difficult for the Aston Martin F1 team. There were considerable expectations for the Lawrence Stroll-owned squad as they entered the season with a new power unit alliance with Honda and their first machinery developed under Adrian Newey’s guidance. However, troubles with both the car and power unit became evident quite quickly.

The team rolled out a B-spec car at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with power unit enhancements following in the subsequent grand prix. Currently, they are placed 10th in the constructors' championship with three points.
