Rui Pinto, a whistleblower from Portugal, has launched a scathing critique against FIFA President Gianni Infantino. The creator of Football Leaks accuses the Swiss official of helping Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain resolve their financial fair play issues with UEFA in 2014.

His revelations through Football Leaks have formed the basis for multiple journalistic investigations into the English club Manchester City. Pinto now claims that Infantino, then UEFA Secretary General, abused his position to secure lighter sanctions for City and PSG.

“Back in 2014, there was a man who was already aware of the irregularities involving Manchester City. That man now runs FIFA,” Pinto writes.

He alleges that Infantino leaked confidential documents and did everything possible to ensure that Manchester City and PSG would escape fines. Similar allegations had already been raised from the Football Leaks documents in 2018. Der Spiegel reported at that time that Infantino had personally intervened in the financial fair play matters of City and PSG, facilitating more favorable agreements.

Pinto concludes his remarks with a stinging accusation against Infantino: “In light of his actions as UEFA Secretary General and, more recently, as FIFA President, I can only conclude that Gianni Infantino, in my humble opinion, has become a cancer for football and should have no place in the future of this sport.”

Back in 2014, there was a man who was already aware of the irregularities involving Manchester City. That man now runs FIFA. The infamous Gianni Infantino, then UEFA General Secretary, abused his authority, shared confidential documents and, in short, outmanoeuvred the Investigatory Chamber, doing everything in his power to ensure that both Manchester City and PSG would merely receive a fine, avoiding a deeper investigation that could have led to a Champions League ban. All of these details were also revealed through Football Leaks.
Given his actions as UEFA General Secretary and, more recently, as FIFA President, I can only say, in my humble opinion, that Gianni Infantino has become a cancer on football and should have no place in the future of the game.
