Kimi Antonelli shares insights on his father's concerns regarding his Formula 1 racing journey.

Current Formula 1 championship frontrunner Kimi Antonelli has disclosed that his father was opposed to him pursuing a career in racing after witnessing his own journey cut short due to financial constraints.
The Mercedes driver arrives in Austin for the United States Grand Prix with a 102-point advantage in the championship and could potentially become the youngest champion in F1 history this Sunday. His father, Marco, a former racing driver now managing his own Italian GT and Formula 4 teams, has frequently been present in the paddock throughout the season.
When asked during the drivers' press conference in Austin about the extent of his father's support and whether it was true he was against his son racing, Antonelli shared: "Yes, my dad is like my foundation. He, along with my mum and the rest of my family, knows me best and understands how to guide me in certain circumstances.
"Throughout my upbringing, he's been imparting everything he knew, initially about racing, but now he also teaches me valuable life lessons. Having someone like him beside me during races is really crucial, especially in such an important year.
"He has been making an extraordinary effort to juggle his work, his racing team, and attending my races, which I truly value.
"However, when I was younger, before my career even began, he was reluctant for me to race because the sport can be quite unforgiving at times, and especially from a financial standpoint, it’s a challenging arena without the necessary backing.

"I will always be immensely thankful to Mercedes, as they believed in me when I was very young, and without their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They have been with me every step of the way, from karting to now, and provided me with vital opportunities. Without them, I might not be here.
"This is why my dad was hesitant about my racing career; he had to confront this harsh reality during his own time in the sport. He lacked financial backing, which hindered his racing ambitions, leading him to establish his own racing team.
"He didn’t want me to encounter the same disappointments he faced back then, and due to the difficulty he had in accepting that, he simply wanted to shield me. But eventually, he recognized my passion, and that’s when he decided to let me pursue it."
Antonelli currently tops the championship standings with 340 points. His Mercedes teammate George Russell trails in second with 238 points, while Lewis Hamilton is in third with 229 points.
The United States Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from October 23-25 at the Circuit of the Americas.
