Kimi Antonelli set to "complete the task" as his inaugural F1 championship opportunity approaches at the US GP.

Formula 1’s dominant frontrunner Kimi Antonelli asserts that he aims to "complete the task correctly" as he prepares for his first chance to become the youngest world champion in the series' history.
The 20-year-old has the opportunity to secure the 2026 championship as soon as this weekend at the United States Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas, although achieving this will require some assistance from others.
Antonelli will claim the title if he triumphs in Sunday’s race while his Mercedes teammate George Russell, currently 102 points behind, finishes ninth or lower, and Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton does not place higher than fifth.
When questioned about this scenario, Antonelli promised he would strive to "complete the task correctly", which entails treating the Austin-Mexico-Brazil triple-header just like any other race.
This strategy has already earned him eight Grand Prix victories and 14 podium finishes that have brought the Italian to this pivotal moment.
"It certainly is wild when you think about it, but that's why I won't dwell on it," Antonelli remarked. "For something disastrous to occur for others, I need everything to go perfectly for me, which is not very likely."

"We had a discussion with Bono [race engineer Peter Bonnington] this morning and concluded to simply enjoy ourselves and maintain the same mindset I've had all year.
“One race at a time and just aim to perform my best every weekend, and we’ll see what happens. But certainly, if I execute well, the outcomes will follow."
Antonelli acknowledged that winning the title would fulfill a childhood aspiration and represent an "extraordinary accomplishment," but he remains focused on "completing the task correctly" first.
"It would be a dream come true; it's something I’ve envisioned since I was young. Just being in this position is unbelievable," he continued.
"However, I must keep pushing forward; it’s not over yet. First, we’ll focus on completing the task correctly, and then we can relish the rest. But undoubtedly, it would be an incredible achievement."
