In the wake of Red Bull Racing's significant triumph at the rain-postponed 2026 Bahrain Grand Prix in Sepang, Malaysia, former team consultant Helmut Marko is already setting his sights on the next landmark achievement.

The Marina Bay Street Circuit remains the elusive target for Max Verstappen. Despite the Dutch driver's dominance across nearly every other track on the contemporary calendar, a win on the challenging, humid streets of Singapore has so far slipped through his fingers. However, after clinching Red Bull Racing's inaugural victory fueled by its proprietary engine program, the momentum in Milton Keynes has notably shifted.

A groundbreaking engine achievement for Red Bull

In a conversation with Austrian outlet oe24, Marko praised the landmark engine success and expressed that Verstappen is finally feeling capable of overcoming his challenges in Singapore.

"The race was fantastic, although I would have preferred a true rain race, but they postponed it for too long," the Austrian remarked. "So I was thrilled for Max and for Red Bull on their first win with their own engine."

He emphasized that achieving success with the extensive engine project was a monumental accomplishment for the Milton Keynes team.

"It's genuinely remarkable what they've managed to do," he stated. "Just recall how long it took Honda back in the day, for instance."

The end of the Singapore jinx?

Though Red Bull Racing faced difficulties earlier in the 2026 season, Marko indicated that the recent updates to the chassis have finally unleashed the car's capabilities on narrow street circuits.

"The chassis was responsible for the earlier setbacks," Marko clarified.

With mechanical issues seemingly sorted out, Marko offered a significant hint regarding the team's aspirations for the race on 11 October.

"Max mentioned that he believes it’s possible to win in Singapore... finally," he disclosed to oe24. "As is well known, this is the only victory he still requires."

Having tackled nearly every other obstacle in Formula 1, the entire paddock will be keenly observing Marina Bay to see if the four-time champion can finally check this last circuit off his ultimate wish list.
