Max Verstappen issues a Red Bull advancement statement with a foreboding alert about Malaysia.

Max Verstappen has not secured pole position since the conclusion of the 2025 Formula 1 season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Therefore, seeing him claim the top spot on the time sheets today in Sepang for the Bahrain Grand Prix was a momentous occasion for supporters of the four-time champion. Following his performance, he praised his team's advancements as he anticipates Sunday's race.
He outpaced Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton by nearly three-tenths, giving Red Bull and its Ford power unit their inaugural pole position in this partnership.
Isack Hadjar also contributed, finishing the session in third place, although a five-place grid penalty relegates him to eighth. Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes will take his spot.
Verstappen's thoughts on Red Bull's advancements
Speaking during the press conference after the session, Verstappen expressed his satisfaction with starting a challenging race from the front.
“At certain tracks, we were quite close, but this weekend has been very encouraging for us. We began well from FP1, and since then, we have been focused on further enhancing the car. Honestly, I’m very pleased to be on pole here.
“It’s always tough here. The heat is challenging for us, as well as for the cars, brakes, and tyres. The race is certainly going to be demanding. There’s a lot to manage, and it’s impossible to predict right now who will handle that best.
“However, the start is crucial, and many things can happen. We just need to stay alert and prepared, and we’ll see how competitive we are during the race. But so far this weekend, I feel good and confident, and I hope we can replicate that tomorrow.”
He remains unfazed by rivals' race pace
When asked if he was worried that his competitors might have traded qualifying speed for better race pace, the Dutch driver dismissed any concerns.
"I’m confident in my performance. If others choose to make greater sacrifices, then good luck to them. But I’m ready," he concluded. A foreboding message for the rest of the grid.
