The Moroccan tennis team began its journey in the second round of the Davis Cup qualifiers successfully, leading their Nigerian counterparts 1-0 after the conclusion of the first singles match held today at the Railway Club courts in Rabat.
This lead came thanks to a well-deserved victory by Moroccan player Karim Benani over Nigerian opponent Kanis Abua in straight sets, with scores of 6-1 and 6-2. Benani dominated the match, securing the win for the national team in under an hour.
In a statement to the press, Benani expressed his great happiness with the level he displayed and the importance of this victory, emphasizing that this ideal start boosts the team's chances in the upcoming matches.
Competition continues today with the second singles match, featuring Moroccan Yassine Dlimi against Nigerian Daniel Adeli; tomorrow, Sunday, will see a doubles match where the Moroccan duo Younes Alami Al-Roussi and Yassine Dlimi face the Nigerian pair Michael Emmanuel and Yusuf Abubakar, followed by the crucial singles matches between Karim Benani and Daniel Adeli, and Yassine Dlimi against Kanis Abua.
It is important to note that a victory in this matchup will secure the Moroccan team a spot in the playoff for the first global group of the Davis Cup, scheduled to take place in February 2027.
