Under criticism since his arrival at Marseille, Himad Abdelli has finally found his footing since the start of the current season. His coach, Bruno Genesio, mentioned several changes that explain his positive momentum.

Himad Abdelli seems to have found his rhythm at Olympique de Marseille. With three goals scored in his last three appearances in Ligue 1, the Algerian midfielder is delivering solid performances and gradually establishing himself as a key element of the Marseille system. Bruno Genesio commented on this evolution in a press conference, highlighting the work done by his player.

Arriving at the Canebière during the winter transfer window, Abdelli faced a difficult start, characterized by limited playing time and criticism of his performances. However, since the beginning of the season, the Fennec has presented himself in a completely different light. Sharper and more committed, he is taking advantage of a number 10 role that allows him to fully showcase his technical skills.

For Genesio, this progression does not stem from a transformation on his part, but rather from a realization on the player's side. “I don’t think I’ve transformed him. We talked about confidence; he is now mentally liberated and has gained confidence by playing consecutive matches. He has also taken charge by implementing elements to be more effective, and he is aware of it. He still has room for improvement, and he knows that too. He is quite clear-headed about his areas for improvement. We know he is a good player, capable of being decisive, and he has proven it in his recent matches, but he still has steps to take,” explained the French coach.

The Marseille coach also emphasized the efforts made by the Algerian off the ball, particularly in his offensive runs and defensive work. These aspects have improved and now contribute to his impact on the collective game.

Despite this encouraging momentum, Genesio expects even more consistency from his midfielder. For Abdelli, the challenge will be to maintain this upward trajectory over the long term.
