For the second consecutive day, Riyad Mahrez once again demonstrated his effectiveness with Al-Shamal. However, despite this new success for the Algerian international, his team faced a tough evening against Al-Sadd this Friday during the eighth round of the Qatari league.

Riyad Mahrez continues his good run in Qatar. The Algerian winger scored another goal for Al-Shamal during their away match against Al-Sadd. This goal, however, was not enough to prevent a heavy defeat for his team, which lost 4-1.

The match started well for Al-Sadd, who quickly took the initiative thanks to Brazilian Giovani Henrique, who scored in the 11th minute. Despite this opening goal, Al-Shamal held firm before finding the resources to get back into the game just before halftime.

It was ultimately Mahrez who equalized for both teams. In stoppage time of the first half, the former Manchester City player converted a penalty awarded by the referee following a foul on his Algerian teammate Baghdad Bounedjah. The captain of the Greens thus scored his second consecutive goal in the league, having already found the net in the previous round.

A goal that was not enough to avoid the rout

The remainder of the match, however, turned in favor of Al-Sadd. Reduced to ten men after the expulsion of Tunisian Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane in the 45th minute, the Al-Shamal team gradually succumbed to the opposing attacks.

Mohamed Camara restored the lead for Al-Sadd in the 62nd minute, before Akram Afif extended the score six minutes later. Roberto Firmino ultimately sealed the home victory in the 81st minute, bringing the score to 4-1.

This victory allows Al-Sadd to temporarily take the top of the standings with 18 points. Meanwhile, Al-Shamal remains stuck on nine points and will need to react quickly to regain positive momentum.
