Moroccan international Azzedine Aounahi faces a lengthy absence from the pitch after recent medical examinations revealed a complete tear in the hamstring tendon in his right leg, necessitating surgery, according to Greek media reports.

Aounahi was injured during the match between his team Panathinaikos and Asteras Tripolis on Sunday, October 18, in the Greek league, which ended with his team winning five goals to one. He had to leave the field on a stretcher in the 19th minute.

The same sources indicated that new examinations, conducted using MRI, showed that the injury is more severe than previously reported, as the second examination confirmed a complete tear in the tendon, prompting the medical staff to decide on surgical intervention to reduce the risk of re-injury.

The Moroccan international is expected to undergo surgery next Thursday, and the duration of his absence will depend on the progress of his health and response to the rehabilitation program. Greek reports suggested he could return to competition during the playoff phase of the Greek league scheduled for March.

This injury places Aounahi in for a long recovery period, awaiting the results of the surgical intervention and the medical program he will follow to regain his fitness, with no definitive return date to the pitch announced yet.
