The Guiriko region announced on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, in Bobo-Dioulasso, the criteria for selecting players to join its two teams for the Sovereignty League. These guidelines were presented during a meeting between the regional governor and local sports stakeholders.
According to the established criteria, technical staff will be recruited through a call for applications. Players will be selected based on their talent, with a requirement that 50% of the squad must reside in the Guiriko region. Footballers already registered in competitions of the Burkinabé Football Federation (FBF) will also be considered.
The regional authorities have also set the minimum age for players at 16 years. Each team will be required to include at least seven players under the age of 19 to encourage the emergence of young talent. This initiative primarily aims to strengthen the football development policy within the region.
In addition to sporting aspects, teams must meet governance criteria. Each team will be required to have a board of directors and be structured as a sports company. This measure aims to ensure optimal administrative and financial management of the clubs participating in the competition.
