U17: Ghimouz selects five new players from France and Spain for the tournament in Croatia.
The Algerian U17 national team will participate in a tournament in Croatia as preparation for the World Cup scheduled for November in Qatar. Several changes have been made to Amine Ghimouz's squad.
The Algerian coach has called up 24 players to take part in this friendly competition, with 10 playing in Algeria and 14 in Europe, which represents roughly the same distribution as during the Africa Cup of Nations in May, but several players are absent.
First of all, the best player of the African tournament, namely Yacine Abed from Paradou, who recently made headlines by seeking to join Qatar and had been reclassified with the U16 national team led by Karim Ziani.
Additionally, six players based abroad are missing. Defender Yanis Messaoudi from AC Milan, and midfielders Adam Benali (Le Havre), Rayane Zidane (Bayer Leverkusen), Daaou Bilal (Eintracht), all starters with their clubs' U19 teams.
It is also worth mentioning Melwane Zaidi (17 years old) and Mouhamed Valmy (16 years old), who play respectively with the reserve teams of Basel and Rennes. As for Valmy, it is reported that he has been promoted to play with the Algerian U20s.
Regarding the new arrivals, there are five:
Kenzo Brignone, 16 years old, defender (Marseille U19)
Zinnedine Zouai, 17 years old, midfielder (Sochaux U19)
Zadig Bendiab, 16 years old, attacking midfielder, (Levante)
Ilhan Maameri, 17 years old, forward (Brest U19)
Elyes Tridi, 17 years old, forward (Reims U19)
It is not yet certain that the absentees from this camp will not participate in the World Cup, as the coach plans to conduct a new assessment of the squad in Croatia, as he did this summer with players from the local league.
