Manchester City returns to winning ways in the UEFA Champions League. After suffering a defeat against PSG on matchday 2, the Citizens managed to secure a victory against AEK Athens this Tuesday.
AEK Athens believed for a moment, but the miracle did not happen. The Greek club hoped to pull off a surprise at the Etihad Stadium. However, thanks to a brilliant performance from Phil Foden, Manchester City avoided the trap set by the Greek team. In the absence of Erling Haaland, it was Phil Foden who carried the hopes of the Mancunians.
Yet, the Sky Blues started the match with some uncertainties. The Athens team came close to opening the scoring. Once the storm passed and was under control, Manchester City took charge. First, in the 13th minute, Elliot Anderson opened the scoring, followed by a flurry from Phil Foden. The Englishman shone in the 34th minute with his first goal of the evening. Manchester City went into halftime with a two-goal lead.
Upon returning from the break, AEK Athens reignited doubts in the hearts of the Sky Blues. Stravos Pilios reduced the deficit in the 52nd minute. But Rayan Cherki quickly dispelled the uncertainties, just 5 minutes later. With an assist from Phil Foden, the Frenchman restored Manchester City's two-goal advantage. The visitors appeared overwhelmed in the face of blue dominance. Phil Foden (65', 76') sealed Manchester City's victory in this third matchday, their second in the competition after the win against FC Porto on the opening day.
