FC Koln's sporting director praises Gideon Mensah's World Cup experience following the finalization of his transfer.

Bundesliga club FC Köln has expressed confidence in their new acquisition Gideon Mensah, believing he will enhance the quality and stability of their squad after signing the Ghanaian international on a long-term deal. The 27-year-old joins the German side as a free transfer, concluding his four-year tenure with French Ligue 1 team AJ Auxerre. Sporting director Thomas Kessler disclosed that the club had been observing the Black Stars left-back for a considerable time prior to finalizing the deal. "We have been keeping an eye on Gideon for quite a while and are thrilled to have him join FC. He brings international experience, showed strong performances in France last season, and confirmed that prowess at the World Cup," Kessler stated. Mensah arrives in Germany following a standout FIFA World Cup, where he played every minute in Ghana's four matches, helping the Black Stars advance to the Round of 32 before a narrow loss to Colombia. The defender became available after his contract with Auxerre lapsed, concluding a successful period that started with a loan in 2021 before turning permanent a year later. Last season, Mensah made 30 appearances in Ligue 1 and provided two assists, aiding Auxerre in their quest for top-flight survival.
