Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi has stated that he is unfazed by the disparity in acknowledgment he receives at the club compared to the national team, emphasizing that the backing he receives from fans is what fuels his motivation. The St. Gallen keeper has experienced a remarkable ascent over the past year, aiding the Swiss team in clinching the Swiss Cup and delivering several stellar performances for Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Despite his achievements, Ati-Zigi asserts that external accolades do not serve as his driving force. "I'm not concerned if I'm receiving accolades in the Swiss league but not for the national team. However, I do receive substantial support from people, and that's what propels me," he shared with Sporty FM. The 29-year-old stood out as one of Ghana's key players during the World Cup. He began the Black Stars' first group match against Panama but unfortunately sustained an injury that kept him out of subsequent matches. Ati-Zigi made his return in the Round of 32 against Colombia, stepping in for the injured Benjamin Asare. Although Ghana faced a narrow 1-0 loss and exited the tournament, the goalkeeper made a number of remarkable saves and was widely acknowledged as the Black Stars' top performer that evening. At the club level, the former Sochaux goalkeeper is gearing up for another season with St. Gallen after contributing to their Swiss Cup victory. This success secured their place in the UEFA Europa League, where the Swiss team will face Portuguese powerhouses Benfica in the second qualifying round. With his contract extending until June 2027, Ati-Zigi remains committed to maintaining his strong form for both his club and the national team, regardless of the level of recognition he receives.
