Gideon Mensah shares his motivation for signing with FC Koln, despite receiving attention from various other teams.

The 27-year-old, who will celebrate his 28th birthday in a week, has agreed to a two-year contract with the Bundesliga team during the summer transfer period. This move concludes a notable tenure in the French league with AJ Auxerre, where he accumulated over 100 appearances, including 98 in Ligue 1. The Black Stars left-back expressed that his decision to join the Bundesliga was the right one after engaging with Koln's officials. "Following the World Cup, I had multiple options. However, during discussions with the FC representatives, who made considerable efforts to bring me on board, I felt a strong connection right from the beginning. Additionally, the sporting ambitions they presented to me were very appealing," he stated after finalizing the agreement.

"I've also heard a lot about the city and the remarkable support from the FC fans, which I am genuinely excited about. Just as I have done for Ghana and my previous teams, I will dedicate myself fully to FC to help the club reach its objectives and ensure we succeed as a collective," he added. Mensah was said to be attracting interest from various clubs, including German side Schalke 04. The WAFA alumnus is expected to cut his vacation short and join the team for pre-season preparations shortly.
