Gideon Mensah promises to dedicate himself fully to FC Köln following his transition to the Bundesliga.
Ghanaian international Gideon Mensah has committed himself fully to FC Koln following his transfer to the Bundesliga club for the 2026/27 season. The 27-year-old left-back arrives at Koln as a free agent after his contract with French Ligue 1 team AJ Auxerre came to an end, concluding a fruitful four-year tenure with the club. After completing the move, Mensah expressed his intention to replicate the dedication that has characterized his journey with the Black Stars and his former teams. “Just as I have done for Ghana and my previous clubs, I will give everything for FC so the club achieves its goals and we are successful as a team,” Mensah stated. The Ghanaian defender comes to Germany following a notable performance at the FIFA World Cup, where he played every minute in the Black Stars' four matches, helping them reach the Round of 32 before being eliminated by Colombia. Mensah departs Auxerre having proven himself as one of the club's most reliable players. Initially joining on loan in 2021, his stay was made permanent the subsequent year. In the 2025/26 Ligue 1 season, the former Red Bull Salzburg defender featured in 30 league matches and provided two assists, playing a key role in ensuring Auxerre maintained their top-flight status.
