The Badminton Association of Japan provided training equipment to the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN) as part of Japan’s Sport for Tomorrow initiative.
The National Sports Commission (NSC) announced this news on their X account on Friday.
The event, conducted at the Package B Indoor Sports Hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, was attended by NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, Japan's Ambassador to Nigeria H.E. Suzuki Hideo, NSC Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, and Nigeria Olympic Committee President Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel.
Those in attendance also included BFN President Francis Orbih, National Institute for Sports Director General Philip Shaibu, and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development Hon. Adeboye Adeyinka Anthony.

The donated equipment consists of 55 badminton rackets, 44 shuttlecocks, six racket covers, and three racket bags, aimed at enhancing the growth of both elite and grassroots badminton throughout the nation.
This initiative stemmed from a partnership between BFN and their Japanese counterparts via their representatives on the Badminton World Federation Council, with the Japanese Government facilitating the transportation of the equipment.
During the ceremony, NSC Chairman Dikko praised the Badminton Federation of Nigeria for securing vital international partnerships that will elevate training standards and bolster the development path for Nigerian athletes.
He also expressed gratitude to the Government and people of Japan for their ongoing support of sports development in Nigeria.
