Lawrence Ati-Zigi embracing the Europa League opportunity with St. Gallen

Black Stars custodian Lawrence Ati-Zigi expresses that participating in the UEFA Europa League would signify another important achievement in his career as he gears up for a new season with Swiss club St. Gallen. The Ghanaian international played a pivotal role in helping St. Gallen secure the Swiss Cup last season, which earned the club a spot in the Europa League qualifiers. "It'll be a tremendous accomplishment for me to compete in the Europa League as it allows you to face some of the finest players," Ati-Zigi shared with Sporty FM. The 29-year-old is anticipated to play when St. Gallen faces off against Portuguese powerhouses Benfica in the second qualifying round, with a coveted place in the league phase on the line. Ati-Zigi enters the new season with optimism following a commendable performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Ghana. He started the Black Stars' first group match against Panama before an injury briefly sidelined him. He made a comeback in the Round of 32 against Colombia, delivering an exceptional performance with several critical saves, despite Ghana's narrow 1-0 loss. The former Sochaux goalkeeper has also reaffirmed his dedication to St. Gallen amidst recent transfer rumors, emphasizing that his priority is to aid the club in achieving success both domestically and in European competitions. With a contract extending until June 2027, Ati-Zigi now has the chance to challenge himself against some of Europe’s elite clubs as he aims to build on a remarkable year for both his club and country.
