Ghanaian international Marvin Senaya is poised for a lengthy period off the pitch following successful surgery to mend the hamstring injury he sustained during the Black Stars' journey in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 26-year-old right-back incurred the injury during Ghana's Round of 32 match against Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium on Friday, July 3, abruptly concluding what had been an outstanding tournament for the defender.

Medical assessments, including an MRI scan performed in Kansas City, validated the seriousness of the hamstring injury, necessitating surgical intervention.

Senaya then traveled to Paris, where he successfully underwent the operation before returning to his club, AJ Auxerre, to commence the subsequent phase of his recovery.

The defender is anticipated to require at least eight weeks for rehabilitation before he can re-enter competitive play.

Senaya was among Ghana's top performers at the World Cup, participating in all four matches for the Black Stars prior to his injury against Colombia.

His dynamic performances at right-back garnered acclaim throughout the tournament as Ghana advanced to the knockout phase.

Despite this hurdle, there is hope that the Auxerre defender will recover in time to participate in Ghana's qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, set to commence later this year.
