Rob Dieperink, a referee from the Netherlands, has passed away weeks after being removed from the World Cup 2026 roster following his arrest for the alleged sexual assault of a minor.
The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) announced Dieperink’s death on Monday, honoring the official with a heartfelt statement.

It’s worth noting that Dieperink was initially chosen as one of the referees for this summer’s World Cup before he was later struck from FIFA’s officiating list.
His dismissal occurred after his arrest in the UK concerning an allegation of sexual assault involving a teenage boy while he was officiating a UEFA Conference League match between Crystal Palace and Fiorentina in England.
In their statement, the KNVB expressed: “We are shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of referee Rob Dieperink.”
“With Rob’s passing, the refereeing community loses a highly respected referee with international experience, but more importantly, a wonderful and committed colleague.”
“Our condolences go out to his family, friends, and all who cherished him. We wish them strength and support in navigating this profound loss.”
