Official admission stirs controversy in the Manchester derby... Haaland's goal was incorrect

The "Pro Ref" organization, responsible for managing referees in the Premier League, has admitted that Manchester City striker Erling Haaland's goal against Manchester United was incorrectly awarded.

The journalist Ben Jacobs reported on his page on the platform "X", citing a statement from  "Pro Ref" that the organization believes the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) misinterpreted the role and position of Argentine player Enzo Fernandez from Manchester City, who was offside when the goal was scored, and should have intervened to organize a review of the incident for the main referee.

The statement read: "We contacted Manchester United this evening to acknowledge the error. An investigation into the incident will be conducted."

The match took place on Sunday and ended with Manchester City winning. Haaland scored the only goal of the match.

Since the 23rd minute, Manchester City played with ten men after one of their players was sent off.

This admission of error is a rare precedent in the Premier League, where the league and the "Pro Ref" organization usually remain silent about refereeing mistakes, especially in big matches.

This acknowledgment is expected to spark widespread debate about the use of video technology and its impact on match results.
