Real Madrid kicked off their UEFA Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Italian visitors Inter Milan on Tuesday evening at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Real Madrid ended the first half with a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde in the 14th and 23rd minutes, before Carlos Augusto managed to reduce the deficit for Inter in the 77th minute.

With this win, the royal team secured their first 3 points in the European competition, bringing joy to their fans just days after suffering their first defeat of the season against Real Betis in La Liga.

Courtois Shines

Inter started the match strongly and threatened the home team's goal on several occasions, but Belgian goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois excelled, saving several dangerous attempts, notably from Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez.

Against the run of play, Real Madrid capitalized on a defensive error from Inter, as Brahim Díaz took advantage of Jan Bisseck's slip and passed the ball to Mbappé, who found the net in the 14th minute.

Nine minutes later, Valverde seized on another mistake, this time from Inter goalkeeper José Martínez, snatching the ball to score the second goal for the hosts.

Inter tried to get back into the game before the end of the first half, but Courtois and Real Madrid's defense held firm to maintain the royal team's lead.

The second half saw a back-and-forth exchange of attacks, with both teams creating dangerous chances and the goalkeepers shining in preventing several certain goals.

Inter finally managed to reduce the deficit in the 77th minute when Lautaro Martínez delivered a cross that Carlos Augusto converted directly into the net.

The Italian side intensified their efforts in search of an equalizer in the final minutes, but Courtois continued his stellar performance, saving a dangerous attempt in the 89th minute.
