Red Bull has officially signed Kimi Raikkonen’s son as a junior driver.

Robin Raikkonen, the offspring of 2007 Formula 1 world champion Kimi, has joined the Red Bull Junior Team.

Born on January 27, 2015, Raikkonen has been involved in karting since 2022, competing in the Rotax Max Challenge, initially in Switzerland and then throughout Europe. He also participated in the WSK Super Master Series last year, racing in categories suitable for his age.

“We are all excited and delighted that Robin has been selected to advance his racing career as part of the Red Bull Junior Team,” Kimi Raikkonen expressed in a press statement.

“Laurent and everyone at Red Bull have shown tremendous support during our conversations. They provide an appealing and thorough programme designed to cultivate Robin’s development in the years ahead, equipping him with the necessary experience to hone his inherent talent, which he has clearly exhibited in his karting ventures thus far.

“The Red Bull Junior Team boasts a legacy of remarkable achievements. Its alumni include the likes of Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, among others. Thus, it is with great humility that Robin becomes part of this prestigious programme, and he is committed to putting forth his utmost effort to justify the trust that Red Bull has placed in him.”

Red Bull F1 team principal Laurent Mekies described Robin Raikkonen as “one of the most promising young talents” of his generation, who has “already showcased remarkable skill in karting.”

Mekies enthusiastically commended the young Finn for “his speed, racecraft and innate talent” alongside “his maturity, composed demeanor and focused approach to driving.”

“Our aim is to nurture him step by step, without imposing any undue pressure on him,” the Frenchman added. “The journey through motorsport is extensive, and we will ensure he has the time, support, and resources necessary to reach his full potential.

Robin Raikkonen joins nine other drivers on the Red Bull Junior Team, which is led by Formula 2 championship contender Nikola Tsolov, who is viewed as a strong candidate for a Racing Bulls seat in the 2027 F1 season.

Raikkonen's acquisition comes as former Mercedes talent scout Gwen Lagrue is set to assume a similar position at Red Bull.
