Sports Minister Kofi Adams supports a two-year agreement for Carlos Queiroz.

Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams has expressed his support for a two-year extension of Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz’s contract, labeling the anticipated decision as "suitable" following Ghana's performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Queiroz was brought on board in April with a four-month agreement, arriving just weeks ahead of the World Cup. Despite the limited time to prepare, the 73-year-old Portuguese coach led Ghana past the group stage for the first time since 2010, advancing to the Round of 32 before a close 1-0 loss to Colombia concluded their journey. In an interview with 3FM, Adams articulated his stance clearly. "If we need to offer him a new contract, it’s suitable. I would also support those advocating for two years, which would carry us through to the 2027 AFCON, allowing for some stability so he can concentrate fully on preparing the team," Adams stated. The minister highlighted the importance of continuity after years of frequent coaching changes. He acknowledged Queiroz's effectiveness despite the short preparation window, calling Ghana's World Cup journey "a fair success" under the circumstances. "He has demonstrated that a coach plays a significant role," Adams remarked. The proposed contract extension would keep Queiroz at the helm through the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, with the main goal being to end Ghana's 45-year drought for continental titles since their last victory in 1982. Ghana's qualification efforts for the 2027 AFCON kick off on September 23 against Côte d'Ivoire. With the GFA and the Sports Ministry in agreement on retaining Queiroz, an official announcement is anticipated once the final details are settled.
