WAFCON 2026: Black Queens' head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren targets World Cup qualification in anticipation of the tournament.

Black Queens head coach Kim Lar Bjorkegren has revealed his primary aim of securing a spot in the FIFA Women's World Cup prior to the Women's Africa Cup of Nations 2026 in Morocco. The leading four teams from this tournament will represent Africa at the Women's World Cup in Brazil next year. Ghana's Black Queens have not reached the World Cup since 2007, when they finished last in Group C in China. The Swedish coach is determined to break the Black Queens' World Cup absence by guiding the team to become one of the top four in Africa. "When I took charge of the team a year and a half ago, my goal was to restore Ghana to a top four team in Africa," he stated to PFAG. "Achieving that will surely lead us to victory eventually. Being in the top four will secure our qualification for the World Cup, which would be monumental," he continued. The Black Queens are currently in Morocco gearing up for WAFCON 2026. They recently secured a victory against Ivory Coast in a friendly match on Tuesday afternoon, thanks to a goal from Sharon Sampson. Their next challenge will be against the Super Falcons before the tournament kicks off next week. Ghana has been placed in Group D along with Cameroon, Cape Verde, and Mali.
