Jawhar Nabil, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Hossam El-Din Mostafa, President of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee, and Ihab Hassanein, President of the Arab Federation for Sports of Persons with Disabilities, attended the press conference where details of the first Arab Paralympic Games, scheduled for January 17 to 26, 2027, were announced.
The conference was also attended by members of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee, heads of some Egyptian sports federations, as well as Arab guests.
Sports Included in the Agenda of the First Arab Paralympic Games
The first edition of the Arab Paralympic Games will feature 11 diverse sports: athletics, para powerlifting, boccia, table tennis, badminton, swimming, taekwondo, cycling, goalball, wheelchair basketball, and sitting volleyball.
Director of the First Arab Paralympic Games: 18 Countries to Participate in the Event
Dr. Ashraf El-Ajili, Director of the first Arab Paralympic Games, confirmed that Egypt has been and will remain a hub for major championships, having successfully showcased an exemplary model in sports organization over the years, linking its name with the ability to host major events efficiently.
He added that today we add a new chapter to this history, as Egypt will host the first edition of the Arab Paralympic Games for persons with disabilities, an event organized for the first time in the history of Arab sports.
He explained that the games will include champions from 18 countries that are members of the Arab Federation for Sports of Persons with Disabilities, which is a very good number for the first edition.
President of the Arab Federation for Sports of Persons with Disabilities: Egypt Always Leads the Way
For his part, Ihab Hassanein, President of the Arab Federation for Sports of Persons with Disabilities, affirmed that Egypt has been and will remain the beating heart of the Arab brothers, always leading in hosting the largest events, whether sports-related or otherwise.
He stated that Egypt aims to make the first edition an ideal starting point for the games.
President of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee: We Aim to Make the Games Qualifying for the Next Paralympics
Dr. Hossam El-Din Mostafa, President of the Egyptian Paralympic Committee, expressed his gratitude to Minister of Youth and Sports Jawhar Nabil and officials of the Arab Federation for Sports of Persons with Disabilities for their fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian Paralympic Committee in hosting and organizing the first Arab Paralympic Games in 2027.
Mostafa confirmed that hosting the games reflects the fruits of this cooperation aimed at enhancing Egyptian sports, especially Paralympic sports, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with the private sector to provide income sources that support Paralympic sports.
He noted that the Arab Games come at a critical time, coinciding with the inclusion of several Paralympic sports in the competitions of the African Games in Egypt 2027, which significantly supports the Paralympic movement.
He revealed that the Paralympic Committee aims to make the Arab Games qualifying for the upcoming Paralympics, in addition to striving to make the African Games also qualifying for the next Paralympics.
