Transfer: An Algerian talent leaves Barcelona to join Boulbina!

He was one of the few footballers of Algerian descent playing in a major club in Europe, but he has decided to move to Saudi Arabia.

FC Barcelona has announced the departure of Lovro Chelfi to Al-Diriyah. At just 19 years old, the Algerian-Croatian player is leaving the European continent to continue his career in the Persian Gulf.

He is officially leaving FC Barcelona. The Catalan club has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with Al-Diriyah FC for the permanent transfer of this young winger.

However, Barça retains a percentage on any future resale, demonstrating the economic interest the Blaugrana wish to maintain in the development of such a young player.

Born in Zagreb, Chelfi holds dual Croatian and Algerian nationality. He has represented Croatia at youth levels, which also makes him eligible for Algeria.

He joined FC Barcelona in July 2025 from Kustošija, after being trained at Dinamo Zagreb, and he moved up to the Juvenil A before participating in the summer preparation with Barça Atlètic.

While wearing the colors of the Catalan club, Chelfi played 22 matches with Juvenil A last season. A left-footed player capable of playing on both wings or in a more central role, he particularly stands out for his technique, one-on-one dribbling ability, and comfort in tight spaces.

The Algerian-Croatian will now continue his career in Saudi Arabia, in a league where he could benefit from more playing time.

This choice could allow him to quickly take on more responsibilities, although at just 19 years old, continuing his development in a more demanding European environment would likely have offered more guarantees in terms of sporting success.

For its part, Barça will continue to monitor his development thanks to the percentage it has retained on any potential future sale.
