Super Falcons striker Chiwendu Ihezuo has reiterated the squad’s commitment to successfully defend their championship at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Under Justine Madugu’s leadership, the team will be aiming for a record-extending 11th continental title when the tournament kicks off later this month, with Morocco serving as the host for the third consecutive time.
In addition to claiming the trophy, the Super Falcons are also focused on securing a spot in the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Brazil.
Ihezuo Aims for Another WAFCON Triumph
Ihezuo emphasized that the team’s objective is clear: defend the WAFCON title and secure their place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

“This tournament will be more challenging, significantly more challenging. Last year, there wasn’t a FIFA Women’s World Cup spot to contend for,” Ihezuo remarked to thenff.com.
“When the whistle blows on July 26th, all teams will be laser-focused on the World Cup qualification. As the reigning champions, we cannot afford to let overconfidence set in.”
Injury Concerns Resolved
Discussing the injury that had sidelined her for a lengthy period, Ihezuo, who represents Mexican club Pachuca, confirmed that she has fully recovered and is prepared to support the Super Falcons in their tournament efforts.
“God has been wonderful, and I give Him all the praise. I am now healed and completely recovered. Currently, my club is in pre-season, but I am eager to travel to Morocco and join the Super Falcons of Africa to make Nigeria proud,” she stated.
