Newly signed Real Madrid defender Ibrahima Konate has revealed that France will not adjust their tactical approach specifically for Lamine Yamal ahead of their FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final matchup against Spain.
He dismissed claims that France is intimidated by the Spanish youngster, cautioning that concentrating solely on one player would be a misstep given La Roja’s remarkable overall squad strength.

Konate also reflected on their previous loss to Spain at the Euros, attributing it to a makeshift French defense that lacked cohesion, implying that this World Cup encounter will present a different challenge.
“You cannot be afraid of anyone,” France center-back Konate stated during a press conference. “We will prepare as thoroughly as possible and hope the outcome ultimately favors us.”
“Spain is an outstanding team with immense individual talent, so we won’t concentrate on just one player, even though Lamine (Yamal) is indeed a fantastic talent,” said Konate, who made a brief substitute appearance in the victory over Norway in their final group match.
“We are remaining humble; we won’t fall into that trap,” he added.

Konate also mentioned that the Ballon d’Or buzz surrounding Yamal and some French forwards (like Ousmane Dembélé) is primarily a media construct designed to heighten drama.
While he acknowledged the teenager’s skill and playful comments, Konate stressed that Les Bleus are fully committed to executing their strategy and aiming for the World Cup final.
