Brazilian icon Romário has demanded the swift removal of national team head coach Carlo Ancelotti, deeming Brazil’s premature exit from the FIFA World Cup 2026 against Norway a disgrace and an embarrassment.
He vehemently criticized Ancelotti’s tactical decisions and urged the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) to end his contract.

The 1994 World Cup champion did not hold back in a barrage of severe critiques aimed at the Italian coach and the CBF.
He particularly took issue with Ancelotti’s choices during the Round of 16 clash with Norway, questioning the decision to substitute Bruno Guimarães and to field Ederson as an out-of-position full-back, highlighting the absence of adequate full-back alternatives on the roster.
‘He cannot continue as Brazil’s head coach. If I were in charge of the federation, I would have stormed into the locker room, told him to get lost, and ripped up his contract right then and there,’ Romário stated to Sky Sports Italia.
‘The performance against Norway was unacceptable. I would even consider taking him to court. Then we’ll see what unfolds, but he cannot remain in his position.’
Despite this scathing critique, Ancelotti is anticipated to stay on as the Selecao’s manager through to the next World Cup set to take place in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco in 2030.
