Spain's head coach Luis de la Fuente has expressed his strong belief that his team will triumph over France in their semi-final match at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
It's worth noting that Spain progressed thanks to a late goal from substitute Mikel Merino in the 88th minute during the quarterfinals at SoFi Stadium. While recognizing France’s status as a strong competitor, the Spanish coach is confident that La Roja’s current momentum and tactical adaptability will provide them with an advantage in what he referred to as a “final before the final.”
“Let me clarify: We are not finished,” de la Fuente stated.

“We are going to work hard to try to overcome France, but they will be equally concerned, as we’ve demonstrated that we are the only team in the world capable of defeating them in back-to-back matches.”
France has reached the finals of the last two World Cups, clinching victory in 2018. Spain has only appeared in one World Cup final throughout its history, but the current squad boasts an unbeaten run of 37 competitive matches since March 2023, which includes a penalty shootout loss to Portugal in last year’s Nations League final.
